Comau wins best technical practice application award at the 8th Gasgoo Awards Ceremony

Shanghai, November 2, 2026

Comau has received the Best Technical Practice Application Award at the 8th Gasgoo Golden Gear Awards for an automated production line for next-generation electric drive systems (EDS), developed for a Chinese automotive manufacturer. Wallace Bie, Head of Marketing APAC at Comau, accepted the award on behalf of the company at the awards ceremony.

Organized by Gasgoo, the Golden Gear Awards recognize innovative technologies and outstanding practices across the automotive value chain. This year’s Best Technical Practice Application Award, themed “Chinese Solutions for Global Markets,” recognizes achievements in technological innovation, engineering maturity, real-world application, and the potential to scale solutions across different applications. The award highlights the successful implementation of manufacturing technologies in industrial settings and their practical impact on automotive production.

Delivered and commissioned in 2023, the production line covers key manufacturing processes, including motor assembly, gearbox manufacturing and assembly, inverter assembly, and end-of-line testing. It was designed to support a planned annual production capacity of one million electric drive systems. The line enables mixed-model production of both induction and permanent magnet motors, accommodating different electric drive configurations within a shared manufacturing system.

To address differences in assembly processes and cycle times between the two motor technologies, Comau and the customer jointly developed an adapter system equipped with a zero-point positioner. This enables quick changeovers at the tooling level, reducing the need for complex adjustments to the production line and allowing greater flexibility in accommodating different product configurations. The line also integrates quadocular stereovision 3D vision-guided robots, AGVs for autonomous material supply, and automatic tool-end loading to support automated assembly and material handling.

Since entering production, the line has continued to support high-volume manufacturing of electric drive systems. The award recognizes the project’s engineering achievements in mixed-model production across different motor technologies and demonstrates Comau’s capabilities in automation engineering and system implementation for NEV electric drive manufacturing.
