US joined over 2,000 high school students, teachers, parents, coaches and
mentors from across the state of Michigan and City of Southfield dignitaries on
March 2, 2019 for the City of Southfield’s FIRST Robotics competition. As a
proud STEM education supporter, Comau provided a tool trailer for students to
use at their disposal throughout the event where employees were present to aid
and mentor students. Martin Kinsella, Director of Business Development – NAFTA,
had the honor of delivering the opening speech at the competition for the fifth
year in a row. Congresswoman Haley Stevens was also in attendance, and stopped
by the Comau tool trailer to speak with employees about FIRST, the company, and
our relationship with the organization.
Robotics is known as “the ultimate Sport for the Mind”. High school students are
given six weeks and limited resources to fundraise, create a team brand, and
build and program an industrial-size robot that is to compete in various field
games against other competing teams. The ultimate end goal is to compete
against other teams from around the globe in the FIRST Robotics World Championship,
which will be held in Detroit, Michigan April 24-27, 2019.
