History

1990

Berto Lamet takes over Mecaner S.A. in Bilbao,Spain - a company with consolidated experience in manufacturing sheet metal dies.


1995

The company spreads in South America, Europe, North America and Asia. Comau do Brasil Ind e Com. Ltda and Comau Argentina S.A. are launched with all Comau Business Units joining the the Mercosur market. In Germany, Comau Deutschland GmbH is established, adapting all Business Units to guarantee specialized local support in the country. Comau Productivity Systems changes its name to Comau North America Inc. and its structure is expanded. A representative office in Beijing, China is setup.


1996

Comau France S.A. is established, offering all Comau Business Units throughout the area. Comau Finanziaria S.p.A. is renamed Comau S.p.A.


1997

Comau S.p.A. gains a majority interest in Geico S.p.A. which produces painting systems for the automotive industry. Comau India Pvt. Ltd. in Pune is set up to provide localized support and manage Comau throughout Southeast Asia.


1998

Comau Service is launched with the goal of supplying full maintenance services worldwide. The production plant for sheet metal dies, Comau Poland Sp.z.o.o., located in Tychy, begins operation and, later that year, expands its activities to include maintenance services.


1999

The body system and welding gun activities of the French company Sciaky S.A. are taken over and the company is renamed Comau Sciaky S.A. Comau S.p.A. gains a majority interest in Renault Automation S.A. of France specializing in engineering, metal cutting, mechanical assembly and body final assembly. Fiat S.p.A. acquires Progressive Tool and Industries Co. (PICO), a U.S. leader in body systems manufacturing, renamed Comau Pico. In the UK, the Pico company Pico Estil in Luton is changed to Comau Estil; in South Africa, Aims in Uitenhage is renamed Comau South Africa Pty. Ltd.
